May 2009

Hello,  this is the first in a series of updates, which I hope will give you an idea of the areas of work that we specialise in. I am happy to say, we have had a very busy 1st quarter of the year, so for those of you just browsing, here are some of the jobs we have recently completed:

The Western Bandstand, Hove – contracted through Cheesmur Building Contractors.

We cleaned up the wooden soffits and their corresponding frames ready for refitting. The project is still ongoing as you will see if passing.

Edinburgh Castle and London Embankment Street Lighting – contracted through Horsham based Suggs Lighting - By Royal Appointment.

Our involvement is the lamp heads. We strip them back to the raw material ready for Suggs to weave their magic and repair them on an individual basis. These lamps are mainly copper and brass and we remove the old lacquer. There are also some newly renovated Brass Chandeliers that we have stripped which can be seen inside the Lord Mayors residence, London.

Heritage Work – mainly we work on site, removing paint and varnish from door frames, panelling, fireplaces and balustrades etc. The majority of this work comes from existing clients that we have worked with before.

In the Manor House, Lindfield, we have just completed the staircase and one of the bedroom fireplaces. This is an English Heritage Property and we are contracted through Hilton Interiors, Burgess Hill.  Again this is an ongoing project.

Workshop and office in Lewes.  I am pleased to say that we have also expanded our day to day operations here.  Now we not only strip doors and furniture using caustic soda tanking, but we have increased through put of hand stripping operations for dark wood, hardwood and metal furniture. The process of hand pasting and stripping is labour intensive, but gives a great result. These services have then had an impact on our polishing and finishing, which again has seen an increase in demand.

To answer a question often asked about transport, we do run a collection and delivery service; pickup Friday, then return the following Friday.  There is of course a charge depending on your location, with delivery and pickup times scheduled to within about an hour. Doors can also be left out ready for collection by prior arrangement. Another increase in activity is our Same Day Service for front and back doors, please telephone for a quote on this service.

My name is Tony and my partner is Teresa, please call us if you need help or advice regarding any of our services. 01273 480866,  Mon - Fri 9am - 5pm, Sat 9am – 12am or email us through the website.

Late News - We are taking on lots of Ercol Range furniture at the moment! Many people like the natural grain of the wood and are having the old dark varnish removed Why not restore your own furniture rather than discard it?

For those of you who would just like to polish up old tired furniture, we stock a range of Mylands wax products. These come in a range of colours including clear, antique brown, oak and mahogany.  Available through our eBay listings in 400g tins (click link on LHS), or pick up from our Lewes Workshop.
